Power of the Chia

Hello Petites!

I'm late to the Chia seed phenomena, but as the saying goes, better late than never.  So, I decided to try this small oval, mottle-colored seed to see what all the hoopla was about.  I made Chia seed pudding for breakfast.

It didn't look like much when I mixed it with almond milk, some Hershey's cacao, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and some dates; a recipe I used from Wellness Mama.  I left it in the fridge over night (the seeds absorb up to twelve times their weight in liquid when soaked because they are hydrophilic), also while soaking they develop a coating that gives Chia-based beverages a pudding like texture.  I'm interested now, chocolate pudding, but how will it taste? it was delish!

Not only is this tiny little seed good when you mix it, but it packs a powerful punch to your overall health.  Its considered a super food, and I see why.  Chia seeds are great for anyone who wants to watch their weight, because it reduces appetite and destroys food cravings.  I got the below nutritional facts from Super Nutrition Life:

Did I mention it's a species of flowering plant in the mint family! Now I'm thinking with all the benefits of the Chia seed, it really is a super food, that in addition to its nutritional content carries a superior punch.  Get you some!  I'm got me some!  I tried the Bob's Red Mill brand.

bon appetit!
