Daniel Fast Day No. 16

Hi everybody!  I hope you are having a wonderful day.  First there will be two posts today because I started this post and got sidetracked with a purchase I made on yesterday (a gift to myself that I've been wanting for a really long time).  I purchased a Lodge cast iron 5 quart dutch oven.  My grandmothers use to cook with cast iron all the time, in fact it was the only cookware they owned.

I remember at 12 years old having to get the bread skillet to make cornbread everyday.  Of all the chores I had to do, I thought this to be the worse.  I couldn't wait to become an adult and have my own kitchen; my first thought was "as soon as I can I'm purchasing all new cookware for my home and it's going to be the light weight non-stick cookware and not this ol heavy stuff.  Seriously, when I was 12 years old, I only weighed 70 pounds and 4 feet 11 inches tall.  I was teeny!  That pan seemed to weigh half of me.

However I'm so glad I got to experience first hand cooking with cast iron and how it enhances your food flavor.  That's right, the cornbread turned out great every time, even when I was 12 years old. I plan on purchasing more pieces throughout 2015.

Scripture: BOOK I Psalms 1: 1-3

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

Breakfast
Hash brown potatoes with onions and mushrooms.

Lunch
Vegetable Pho.

Dinner
Barilla Veggie Spaghetti with Walmar'ts brand of  spaghetti sauce, Sam's Choice Roasted Garlic & Tomato.  I stood on the pasta isle for about 30 minutes reading labels.  This sauce has only tomatoes, several tomato purees, water, onions, peppers, basil, olive oil, and (unfortunately) salt, but it doesn't have any sugar. Also it's Gluten-free (and that's a plus in my house) and it's not that expensive.  I spiced it up a little with some extra dry seasonings and we enjoyed it.  I would definitely recommend it if you're not able to make your own. It's a very good sauce.
